 Research Scientist: Biomaterials- Cell Biology
 This Research Scientist position will be responsible for development of novel technologies and products built on Quad Technologies’ QuickGel™ biomaterial platform, applying chemical and biological principles to the development of new reagents and processes for cell therapy development and bioprocessing. You’ll join a strong, supportive team working in a high-profile area of research, with great opportunities to develop your technical skills in a highly dynamic and interactive environment.
We are looking for candidates capable of independently conducting research projects and developing novel technical processes. A key area of focus will be developing and characterizing new hydrogel-based biomaterials for cell therapy applications. Prior experience with formulating and/or manufacturing hydrogels and/or polymers is highly desirable. Experience with bio-conjugation techniques and cell-based assays, ideally with an immunological focus, is strongly preferred. The role will require you to take independent, hands-on ownership of technology and product development projects and to arrange activities to accomplish diverse objectives. Good teamwork and communication skills are key.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design and perform technology and product development and optimization experiments
  • Troubleshoot experimental failures and develop process improvements
  • Prepare and provide written and verbal technical reports, project summaries and updates
  • Help develop, establish, and document appropriate quality control, manufacturing, and other protocols
  • Maintain laboratory records and notebooks.  Ensure all work complies with established process and procedures
  • Work closely with other members of the R&D team to support departmental and company goals
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Job Specifications:

  • Ph.D. preferred; minimum of BS or MS in Biomedical / Material Science Engineering or related discipline with 2 years’ hands-on research experience
  • Demonstrated expertise with development of biomaterials, hydrogel/polymer formulation and bio-conjugation
  • Experience with materials characterization techniques e.g. rheometry, particle sizing
  • Expertise with flow cytometry and immunological cell-based assays strongly preferred
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of projects
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent planning and experimental design skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
