Sean Kevlahan, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder
Sean Kevlahan, is a product driven entrepreneur in the Life Science sector and specialist in stem cell biology. Dr. Kevlahan has received numerous awards including being one of the top-26 finalist in MassChallenge and a winner of the CASIS sidecar award. Dr. Kevlahan holds a B.S in biochemistry from Hofstra University and received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Northeastern University.
Fun Fact: Hates spiders and has an expansive zombie apocalypse plan.
Chief Operating Officer
Jeff has over 25 years of extensive experience in sales, marketing and business development. Before Quad Technologies, he held leadership roles at Cohesive Technologies, Applied Biosystems, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. In addition, after Cohesive Technologies acquisition by Thermo Fisher, he became the group’s general manager with responsiblities for research and development, operations, quality, marketing and applications. Jeff holds his B.S. in biology from Northeastern University.
Fun Fact: Avid runner, has participated in the Chicago 2013 and Detroit 2015 marathons. Jeff also cries at sappy movies on long flights.
Chief Financial Officer
Richard Crowley has over 30 years of financial and management experience. Mr. Crowley earned a BA in Economics from Providence College, received training in accounting at Cornell Business School and has earned his CPA while at Price Waterhouse. Mr. Crowley has served as a contract Chief Financial Officer and executive at several companies since 1995 including Serica Technologies, Immulogic Pharmaceuticals, Ergo Science, Applied Sciences, and Cohesive Technologies. Prior to 1995 he served as Chief Financial Officer of The Crosby Vandenburgh Group, Senior Vice President of Transnational Financial Services, and COO of LittlePoint Corporation. Mr. Crowley has also served as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Education in Massachusetts and is a current finance committee member of the New England Baptist hospital.
Fun Fact: Rick and his wife Colette are recent empty nesters and participate in facilitating Pre Cana for engaged couples in the Massachusetts Merrimack Valley.
Andrew Ball, Ph.D.
Vice President of Research and Development
Andrew specializes in the development of assays and reagents for regenerative medicine applications, with over 15 years’ experience in commercialization of cell-based assays, reagents and devices. Before joining Quad Technologies he held leadership roles at Chemicon International, Millipore Corporation and EMD Millipore. Prior to entering the life sciences industry, Dr. Ball held academic research positions at the University of Uppsala, Louisiana State University Medical Center, University of California San Diego and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. Over the course of his career, he has led the development and commercialization of more than 50 cell-based assay products and services and published > 20 scientific papers.
Fun Fact: Has a dog named ‘Elvis’ and owns more Merle Haggard records than anyone should.
Judy Carmody, Ph.D.
Vice President of Quality Assurance and Quality Control
With 20+ years of experience, Dr. Carmody has developed a passion for creating, implementing and sustaining quality systems that are beyond reproach. Dr. Carmody is the former president of Avatar Pharmaceutical Services, a GMP CRO which she founded and led for over 8 years, prior to selling it in 2010. Since then she has held senior level positions in small and large pharma. Scientific understanding underscores Dr. Carmody’s unique approach to solving the most challenging Quality issues. A resume that spans roles in applied technology, marketing, bench chemistry, validation, quality management and several leadership roles provides the basis of Dr. Carmody’s approach to solution building. Her experience leverages the creative integration of technologies from diverse fields and enables these elements to be transformed into solutions. Dr. Carmody holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Fun Fact: Air Force brat born in Spain and grew up in Provincetown, MA. Health/Fitness fanatic and fierce sports competitor
Guokui Qin, Ph.D.
Dr. Qin has more than 10 years experience in biotechnology research and project management, with a broad background that includes molecular cell biology, protein purification, bioconjugation, assay development and processing, as well as biomaterial design and development. Prior to joining Quad Technologies, Dr. Qin received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Shandong University in China and led several academic research projects at Tufts University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his time at Tufts and MIT, Dr. Qin was involved in discovery efforts for multiple protein-based biomaterials and fusion protein biopolymer systems, resulting in over 20 publications and patent applications.
Fun Fact: A serious basketball and soccer fan, he both loves to play and watch games with friends.
Research and Development Scientist
A product of America’s Dairyland, Steven Wells attended the University of Madison, Wisconsin where he majored in Biochemistry. He subsequently went on to research protein purification and influenza, eventually finding himself in the Boston area yearning to join a start-up or small biotech company. Enter Quad Technologies, where he has endeavored since April of 2014, focusing on the development of its core technology, QuickGel™.
Fun Fact: Enjoys juggling, though he admits he cannot do it well.
Nithya J. Jesuraj, Ph.D.
Nithya is an optimistic and well-motivated scientist with experience in many areas of life sciences research. After completing her B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Cornell University, she attended Washington University in. St.Louis for her graduate studies. During her tenure at WUSTL, she researched and designed cell transplantation therapies for peripheral nerve injuries. Prior to joining the Quad team, she spent over 3 years on the R&D team at Boston Biomedical Inc. to develop single and combination therapies using aiRNA technology to treat variety of human cancers. She is now excited to be part of the fast-paced dynamic environment of Quad Technologies.
Fun Fact: Nithya enjoys playing all sorts of games especially card games like Spades, Rummy, Poker, and Hearts
Jackelyn started her business career here at Quad Technologies in February 2016. As the marketing and sales coordinator, Jackelyn focuses on improving and expanding the pipeline for MagCloudz™ and Quickgel™ as well as managing the digital media. She also assists with operations, logistics, and quality assurance. Prior to Quad, Jackelyn interned at an advertising agency where she gained experience in digital marketing, specifically social media, analytics, and new business strategy. Jackelyn actually began her college career as a health science student, and therefore has experience in the lab environment obtaining basic knowledge of biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology; she has even been in the lab here doing her own cell separations! Jackelyn received a B.S. in Business Administration and a concentration in Marketing at Salem State University.
Fun Fact: Addicted to cheese. Enjoys traveling and boating. Guilty pleasure is watching reality TV
Alaina Peterson, M.S.
Field Applications Specialist
Alaina has over 5 years of experience in biotech and pharmaceutical research. Alaina has a passion for the field of immunology, and has a research background in immuno-oncology, allergies, antibody R/D, and bioassay development. As the field application specialist, Alaina plays a role in product development as well as managing customer application needs. Alaina holds a B.S in Biomedical Sciences from Salem State University, and received her M.S in Biology from the University of Saint Joseph.
Fun fact: Once won a hot pepper eating contest. Is an avid ping-pong player
Senior Research Associate
Julie began her professional career with Quad Technologies in June of 2016. While Julie is from Massachusetts originally, she spent most of her life in Michigan. Julie is a recent graduate of Grand Valley State University, where she received her B.S in Biomedical Sciences, as well as a B.A. in Classics. During her time at Grand Valley, she was an active and motivated research student, studying the filamentation pathway of the opportunistic pathogen Candida albicans. In the past, Julie has interned with BD Life Sciences and Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and is excited to return to industry as a Research Associate, where she will support the R&D initiatives of Quad Technologies.
Fun Fact: Enjoys baking, DIY crafts and all things Pinterest. While not the fastest runner, Julie has completed a half marathon and hopes to train for others in the future.
